We are a group of biologists, naturalists, and enthusiasts interested in the study and conservation of cryptogams. Our mission is to better understand, document, and map species distributions in West Virginia. We hope Academics and laymen alike can encourage growth in knowledge and share in techniques and identification of these unique group of organisms. In 2022, WVCAS plans to offer:

·      Field trips to learn about cryptogams.

·      A periodic newsletter called The Crypt.

·      Crypto-Blitzes (“Bio Blitzes”) to visit areas of interest in the state for species collection and identification.

·     At least one an annual meeting in the fall or winter for members to convene and learn from each other identification and recent discoveries for their particular cryptogam groups of interest.
